Description
1893 public house, with a sympathetic 21st century extension to the south (right) side of the original.
A possible reference to an earlier Red Lion in Ashton, perhaps on the same site, is made by Henry Prescott of Upholland in a diary entry for 19 February 1714-
“... wee set out [from Warrington] past 4, called at … the Lyon in Ashton, and with the help of the Moon came to Wigan about 8....”
