Description
"Mid- to late-C19.
In his self-published "Gleanings of Golborne History" (1955), local historian James Bridge speculates that this may have been the approximate location of the "Golborne Stocks" mentioned by Ashton diarist Roger Lowe in his entry for 24 August 1663:
"The most likely place [for the stocks] would have been Golborne Smithies, for here several roads converged. In the absence of definite information, we may surmise that the farmhouse known as Stack House which adjoined these roads was the most likely place, and that 'Stack' has been substituted for 'Stock'.""
