One of the 9 pubs mentioned in John Leylands book, it was built in the mid to late 18th (possibly earlier but unable to find any records that go back further but John Leyland said there were only 9 pubs before the Beer Act of 1830 with this being one of them). Originally known as the Swan Inn.
