The war memorial, which stands beside the Roman Catholic church of St Marie of the Annunciation in Almond Brook Road Church, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reason: * Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20.
The war memorial was erected in remembrance of the Roman Catholic men of Standish who died in the First World War. Further inscriptions and the names of those who died in the Second World War were added later. Originally it stood outside the presbytery but was moved in 2004 to its current position just north-west of the church by the then priest Fr. Maloney
