Description

Church. 1876. By James Medland Taylor and Henry Taylor.

The present church was consecrated by Dr. Ryle, Bishop of Liverpool on Wednesday 1st November 1882. At that time it was a chapel-of-ease to the parish church of St Davids of Haigh and Aspull, but very soon after the consecration of the church, it was constituted a new parish. Prior to St Elizabeth's being built the small church of St Margaret's, Pennington Green commonly known as Hindley Hall Chapel was used for weekly worship by those living in the vicinity. The present Vicarage was built in the grounds of the old Gerrard Hall on Bolton Road in 1932.
