“Now a livery stables. The gruesome murder here of farmer Joshua Rigby in 1883 and the failure to convict his alleged killer inspired claims that the premises are haunted by Rigby's ghost. The oil painting -which shows Cheetham Fold at an unknown date, possibly with a degree of artistic license- is by local artist W A Soper (1929-1998).”
