Description

A two storey, red brick house, dating from the late C19. Built during the time of the 7th Earl of Crawford, the building is often attributed to his building campaign. Once home to the Sumner family, brewers and proprietors of the adjoining Haigh Brewery from 1909-32. The property is set in its own, extensive grounds which include a formal Edwardian garden and the house is built in the Arts and Crafts style. The original wooden framed windows remain as does the decorative iron trellised porch. The building is in very good condition and makes a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the conservation area. It also has a significant historical connection with the period of expansion and development through the influence of the Earls of Crawford.
