Description
As the 18th century drew to a close Wigan had grown into a sizeable town. The rapid growth of the Victorian era was yet to come and would be stimulated by the arrival of the railways.
There was a railway station at Red Rock. It had platforms in both directions and extensive sidings. The station is now a private residence but the track running past is part of a public bridleway and footpath running several miles to Adlington. This station was owned by Lord Crawford and the family had its own private waiting room.
